World Success Day!

Can a single person invent a new national holiday?

Well WHO ELSE has ever invented one??

People do forget there's always a single person at the bottom of everything ...

So in the year of 2008, it came to pass that there was once again an eighth of August, which is the eighth month and on this occasion, in the eighth year of the third millennium.

Wowee ...! Wonderful in numerology and magical terms - and it only comes once every hundred years, and if we take that third millennium business into consideration as well, actually, it will NEVER come again.

At that time, which as I'm writing is right now, but you might be reading this years after the fact, there was a huge credit crunch crisis and the war on terror, and global warming and all the citizens of the civilised world were subject to totally unrelenting NEGATIVITY and ever more reasons to be TOTALLY TERRIFIED pouring out of their TVs, radios and newspapers.

I was already seriously annoyed with that at the beginning of the year and wrote in my New Years speech that I felt the leadership in politics, industry and society was totally failing to take a hold of this mounting negativity and turn it into proactive, problem solving energy to move us forward towards our various goals in life.

Eight (!) months later, and it had gotten ever worse and to the point where I got angry.

And when I get angry, lightning flashes and often, reality takes a turn into a new direction. It's a bit like flashing energy into a primordial soup and life comes into being where there was none!

"Right," I said, "That does it! We're going to have World Success Day!"

I decided on a simple 3 step program that takes only a few minutes and that would raise people's spirits, guaranteed, consisting of:

  • 1. Stop a moment and start thinking about your strengths, and all you have already accomplished. And that doesn't mean just owning castles and yachts. I, for example, was a single mum raising two boys and that was really a massive undertaking, and I did it, and something that I'm very proud of. Everyone has this sort of thing in their background, they just have to find it and when you do, you can feel yourself becoming stronger and you go, "Wow. I'd forgotten about that ..."

 

  • 2. Now start thinking about all the good things you DO have in your life. I have food in my fridge, a car on my drive, a roof over my head. I have friends and family who support me, and I have a beautiful guitar! I even have a mailing list of a hundred thousand people who I can ask to raise a glass to celebrate success - and they will listen to me! That's amazing ...

 

  • 3. And now and from there, start to think about what you want for the future - what you want to accomplish. Again, this doesn't have to be about castles in the air. Think of practical goals that you know you can achieve if you keep your head together and your focus clear and powerful.

Now, raise your glass of champagne or water if you will and toast yourself - "Here's to my success!"

If you are with others, toast them too - it's a great thing that leaves you smiling and so much happier, more proactive all around, it's well worth it.

That was the basic idea of World Success Day and this is what I told the subscribers to my SFI Ezine.

I got SUCH a great response! Lots and lots of people mailing in and saying they love it, yes, they're going to celebrate World Success Day with us and tell everyone about it!

I thought about who else I could tell, so I decided to tell the entire news network of the UK about it - see if anyone would pick it up.

And yes! They did. I had loads of interviews in the run up and on the day and there wasn't one single reporter amongst all of them who didn't understand and agree completely that it's a GOOD idea to focus on success - even if it's only once a year.

So that, and with our own people forwarding the message and having their friends join in, I estimate that at LEAST a million people thought of, and celebrated, SUCCESS on the day.

And THAT is really cool, something good that came from a simple idea.

It goes to show that if we put on our thinking hats, shake ourselves out of the ordinary states of "oh dear oh dear ..." and "blearch ..." once in a while, we really can achieve something, inspire ourselves and others, and in a very real way, CHANGE THE WORLD.

I say, "Let's have world success day EVERY YEAR on the eighth of August. It's the perfect time for it, it's totally non-denominational, it's modern and it's right.

"And in the meantime, and every day, we can remember and remind ourselves of the basic truth that luck goes where positive energy already resides, and material success comes to those who are already successful - and THAT is truly a matter of energy and attitude, which makes it freely available to ALL."
